Event Details

Kate Moore (1979) is one of the most exciting composers of her generation. She grew up in Australia and moved to The Hague to study with the composer Louis Andriessen, who called her music “clear as water”. We present three recent ensemble pieces in a portrait concert that is devoted to her work.

Kate Moore is fascinated by the cyclical processes in nature and the universe and by the complex ways in which they interact. These interactions can result in major natural disasters. In her ensemble pieces she makes use of repetitive motives that through an elemental force create huge eruptions of sound.

This concert is part of 'The Night of the Second Hague School', which is hosted by Korzo. Dozens of musicians will be performing in every nook and cranny of the theater, including the loading bays, the two concert halls, the rehearsal studios and even the office spaces. Festival Dag in de Branding introduces the term ‘Second Hague School’ to present work by composers who graduated from The Hague’s Royal Conservatory after 2000.

Besides our portrait concert with Kate Moore, Ensemble Klang will play the long-awaited reprise of Oscar Bettison’s now classical ‘bluegrass requiem’ O Death. Concerts with pieces by Hugo Morales, Alejandro Castanõs, Justin Christensen, Matt Wright, Maya Verlaak, Barbara Ellison, Andrew Hamilton, Genevieve Murphy, Carlos Iturralde, Thomas Bensdorp and other young composers will also be given.
