Event Details

White Heat: Sur Polar is an exhibition of media artworks stemming from the activities of the Argentinean Antarctic Division, DNA. Featuring sound installations from UK based artist Chris Watson (who recently completed work on the BBC's Frozen Planet) and Australian Antarctic Resident Philip Samartzis; video artworks from Argentinean Antarctic residents Lawrence English and Werner Dafeldecker and New Zealand artist Phil Dadson; and photography from Argentine artist Andrea Juan, the exhibition charts the shifting environments of Antarctica. It raises questions of environmental change and presents works that address the incredibly unique aesthetic possibilities of this continent of ice.

Please Note the Turbine Studio exhibition schedule: Week one showcases works by Lawrence English, Scott Morrison, Werner Dafeldecker and Chris Watson; Week two showcases works by Phil Dadson and Philip Samartzis.

Venue: Turbine Studio and Foyer, Brisbane Powerhouse
Exhibition Opening Night: Thursday 12 July 2012, 6pm – 9pm
Exhibition Dates: Tuesday 10 July - Sunday 22 July

Liquid Architecture 13: Antarctic Convergence has been conceived by the curators as a way of investigating the philosophical, social and environmental ramifications of the growing human presence in Antarctica through the activities of a diverse set of artists who have produced works from first hand encounters of the continent. Specially curated by Lawrence English and Philip Samartzis, this program draws on a range of Australian and international artists who have undertaken fieldwork in various locations throughout Antarctica. Celebrating the 13th annual festival presented by Liquid Architecture, this national program comprises a Performance Concert Program of live performance works in surround sound, an Exhibition program of spatial-temporal works, Artist Talks and Workshops and is presented in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Bendigo in June and July 2012.
