Event Details
St. Kilda favourite, pianist and singer Margie Lou Dyer, has held down a residency at St. Kilda’s fantastic jazz bar & seafood restaurant “Claypots” for half a decade, making Sunday nights a regular treasure for all. Her gravelly, astonishingly expressive voice is reminiscent of the best women of early jazz, like Bessie Smith, or Billie Holiday, and her blues-tinged, heavy grooving new orleans style of piano playing is unique in Melbourne.
Daughter of legendary jazzman Warwick “Wocka” Dyer and musical soulmate and partner of the late Allan Browne, Margie is Melbourne jazz royalty. Her Quintet consists of musical confreres who share her passion and dedication to authenticity. Margie is joined by the talented likes of Howard Cairns (double bass), Eugene Ball (trumpet), Barry Wratten (clarinet) and Hayley Miro Browne (washboard).
