Two generations of Australian music come together in the music of Mike Nock and Laurenz Pike. It’s a musical conversation across the years, united by a commitment to storytelling through improvisation and the tradition of music as a spiritual, emotional, communicative art form.
This pairing is the result of an ongoing friendship and dialogue between two distinct voices in Australian music. It disregards easy virtuosity in pursuit of the moment, and transcends convention to explore a space where emotion, mood and narrative are paramount.
In August 2012, Nock and Pike released the album ‘Kindred’, an ethereal, inventive, humorous and atmospheric series of vignettes documenting some of Nock’s most vital and inventive playing to date, delicately underpinned by Pike’s singular approach to the drum kit.
Now In only their second public duo performance, Mike and Laurence make their SIMA debut, and a rare appearance for Pike who, although based in Sydney, has dedicated much of his time in recent years to overseas touring commitments with his group PVT. Not be missed.
