Finsterer Missed Tales III – The Lost – World Premiere
Brahms Symphony No.4
About the performance
Debussy’s picturesque Nocturnes conjure visions of clouds, festival celebrations and dangerously alluring sirens!
This rare performance of the complete set of three movements inspired by paintings by James MacNeill Whistler: Nuages (Clouds), Fètes (Festivals) and Sirenes (Siren), which will stir emotions and imaginations as the voices of the Ladies of the MSO Chorus are integrated into the orchestra.
MSO musicians, Christopher Moore (viola) and Timo-Veikko Valve (cello, ACO) perform in the thrilling world premiere of celebrated Australian composer Mary Finsterer’s Double Concerto, Missed Tales III – The Lost.
Brahms’ grand and sweeping Fourth Symphony, a favourite among many a conductor and musician, completes the evening.
Why it’s a must see
“If you ask me which Brahms’ symphony is my favourite, the answer would be the one I’m conducting right now. But I do believe that the fourth is truly my favourite!”
– Sir Andrew Davis, Chief Conductor
Pre-concert talk
Composer, Mary Finsterer, will join host Andrew Aronowicz in conversation before the concert to discuss her work and how MSO musicians will bring it to life.
Running time
1 hour and 45 minutes, including a 20-minute interval
Timo-Veikko Valve appears courtesy of the Australian Chamber Orchestra
