Event Details

Franck’s tender wedding gift to his famous colleague Eugène Ysaÿe, the Violin Sonata in A major has never fallen from popularity. There can be few finer interpreters than Pinchas Zukerman, revered master of the lyrical, expressive style of playing that so perfectly suits this rhapsodic piece. Koppel’s Saxophone Quintet makes a vivid contrast, with its jazzy inflections and rhythmic verve. Clarinettist-composer Paul Dean (beloved mentor of Arcadia Winds) was inspired by the Australian novel Jasper Jones to create his characterful work. It’s followed by one of the most beloved piano quintets in the repertoire, in which Dvorák’s endless capacity for melody engages the heart from start to glowing finish.
