Event Details

Choirs of National Choral School – Gondwana Voices, Gondwana Chorale, Latitude 34, Gondwana Singers, Gondwana Novus and Junior Gondwana perform under conductors from across Australia. Experience a wide variety of repertoire from around the world – a choral kaleidoscope!

And, a special highlight will be a new work commissioned by National Choral School from composer Paul Jarman. It will be premiered and performed by the combined choirs.

Concert dates and times

Wednesday 16 January, 7pm
Opening Gala
2 hours, with 20 minute interval
The Opening Gala features all choirs of National Choral School - Gondwana Voices, Gondwana Chorale, Latitude 34, Gondwana Singers, Gondwana Novus and Junior Gondwana with conductors from across Australia. Experience a wide variety of repertoire from around the world - a choral kaleidoscope! And, a special highlight will be a new work commissioned by National Choral School from composer Paul Jarman. Thursday 17 January, 7pm
Explorations Concert
2 hours, with 20 minute interval
This concert showcases the variety of elective options that choristers of National Choral School will have explored in the previous two weeks -
Randai (Indonesian body percussion) with Suara Indonesia Dance, Javanese Gamelan with Vi King Lim, Singing Taiko with Taikoz, Music Theatre with Alexander Andrews and Peter Hayward and a cappella ensemble with Naomi Crellin (The Idea of North).
 
Friday 18 January, 7pm
Gondwana Chorale in Recital
1 hour 15 minutes, no interval
Gondwana Chorale presents their tour program just ahead of departure for the UK, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.The concert features music from each of these rich choral cultures as well works by Australian composers. Paul Holley and Carl Crossin will conduct Gondwana Chorale - Australia's national youth choir -  and they will be joined by pianist Kate Johnson.
 
Saturday 19 January, 7pm
Closing Gala
2 hours, with 20 minute interval
The Closing Gala brings together all choirs of the 2019 National Choral School - Gondwana Voices, Gondwana Chorale, Latitude 34, Gondwana Singers, Gondwana Novus and Junior Gondwana led by conductors from across Australia. The concert presents a choral feast with a variety of repertoire from around the globe. Combined choirs will perform the new work by Paul Jarman, commissioned for National Choral School. The concert features International Guest Conductor Simon Halsey CBE who will conduct works with some of the choirs.
