Event Details

Presented in partnership with Kupka’s Piano, four exciting new Australian works for piano and percussion receive their world premiere performances. This is complemented by a rendition of John Luther-Adams’ seminal work Four Thousand Holes for piano, percussion and ‘electronic aura’. Four Thousand Holes is complex organism whereby the players and tape become one, sonically merging to form a meta-instrument. This weaves a hypnotic soundscape that submerges the listener in rock and roll inspired harmonies, juxtaposed within a complex rhythmic trajectory and virtuosic synchronicity. Brisbane-based contemporary music ensemble Kupka’s Piano aims to entice audiences into hearing new sounds, new structures, new musical ideas. Through innovative and engaging programming, the ensemble celebrates the latest classical music from Australia and around the world, filling a much-needed gap in the Australian music scene.

Performers: Angus Wilson / Percussion Alex Raineri / Piano

Featured non-Australian music: John Luther-Adams: Four Thousand Holes
