Event Details

Robin Fox has been performing his monochromatic Green Laser Show worldwide for almost a decade, and has toured his production to over 50 cities worldwide. In late 2013 he set to work on a new show that employs three laser projectors one red, one green and one blue – RGB Laser Show – and this is its Sydney premiere.

RGB Laser Show is an ecstatic celebration of sound and light. Sound becomes image and image becomes sound in this mind-bending synaesthetic experience. The audience sees and hears the same electrical signal at the same time awakening synapses that have been dormant too long. Before the RGB Laser Show, Robin Fox will conduct a talk which will be followed by the showing of the film Volta, which was created by sending audio signal from a sound-card directly into an old cathode ray oscilloscope. The result is a direct correspondence between sound and light at the level of electrical signal. The same signal that moves the speaker cones also causes a single light beam to move across a phosphorous screen creating traces and patterns that describe the incoming sound visually. The work was created for the Rectangular Ghost exhibition held at the Roslyn Oxley9 gallery Jan-Feb 2006. It has screened at the Biennale of Asian Art in Taipei, at galleries across Europe, was recently featured in the Sound Full exhibitions in New Zealand and is currently on show at Paul Young Project Gallery in Los Angeles.

“Visually stunning…” The New York Times (for the Green Laser Show)
