Event Details

The Wires Project is a mixed-media performance based collaboration. The project features an international pool of contributors based in Sydney, Singapore and Malaysia. The project is multi-layered and begins with the still photographs of Singapore based photographer Chia Ming Chien. His still photographs are realised into video by Aymeric De Meautis utilising 3D Compositing techniques. In the performance phase the musicians react and improvise to the rendered video.

Each performance of The Wires Project features a unique video that the musicians have not seen previously, provoking a fundamentally spontaneous reaction. As a metaphor, ‘the wires’ infers a means of communication and the project was fostered with communication and the exchange of ideas as the central focus. This exchange occurs on a number of levels: the inter-personal level – between the artists themselves and between the artists and the audience. The inter-art level – between music and visual arts. And the inter-cultural level between Western and Asian world views and perspectives. Using a combination of acoustic instruments and electronic effects, the musicians interact and follow each other’s ideas, moving spontaneously with the video.

Musicians: Briana Cowlishaw (Vocals/FX), Gavin Ahearn (Piana/Keyboards), Peter Koopman (Guitar/FX), Nic Cecire (Acoustic & Electric Drums)
