Event Details
Join the Australian Youth Orchestra as they perform three sweeping works inspired by the tenacity of the human spirit in times of darkness. Ngapa William Cooper was born out of a rich collaboration between Nigel Westlake, Lior, and Dr Lou Bennett AM, with additional lyrics by Sarah Gory. With Westlake leading from the podium, these artists will bring their dynamic stage presence to the orchestral premiere commissioned by AYO. This work explores the strength and compassion of Yorta Yorta activist Uncle William Cooper. The performance will open with Westlake’s The Glass Soldier, dedicated to WW1 veteran and artist Nelson Ferguson. This will be followed by Beneath the Waves, from Westlake’s 2022 score for motion picture Blueback, featuring star cellist Sharon Grigoryan.
This concert will also be performed at Sydney Opera House on Monday 10 July. For more information, head to ayo.com.au
