Event Details
No Enemy Within is the latest musical project from drummer/percussionist Lachlan Hawkins, and sees him moving away from the drum chair to explore the beautiful sounds of the handpan in collaboration with renowned Brisbane producer Steve Thornely.
Lachlan’s interest in the handpan began at the end of high school when he discovered artists such as Hang Massive and Daniel Waples on YouTube; the handpan family of instruments are very young, however, which means artists all around the world are continually discovering new techniques & methods of playing. Since acquiring his handpan, Lachlan has begun performing in both solo and improvised settings. This has seen him perform at Paint It Red (Jugglers Arts Space), the Brisbane Jazz Club with pianist/composer Sophie Min, Queensland Conservatorium with percussionist Tsoof Baras as well as part of the newly launched music therapy initiative, The Stairwell Project, at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital curated by Peter Breen.
With plans to release a CD later this year, this concert invites listeners into Lachlan’s creative process, and will feature both solo and small group original works for the handpan. All of the music is inspired by the concept of having ‘no enemy within’ - being at peace with yourself, quietening your mind and listening to the big-dreamer, creative voice inside - as well as messages inspired by family, gratitude and wellbeing. Lachlan is thrilled to be joined by fellow QCGU alumnus Tsoof Baras, Sophie Min and special guests for this performance.
