Event Details

Nonsemble take over New Globe Theatre's unique cinema room to perform a collection of synchronised music and visuals. Screen Stories showcases the fruits of Nonsemble's long-held fascination with music and the moving image. As the release of our second album, Go Seigen vs Fujisawa Kuranosuke, draws closer, we'll be performing the work in its entirety for only the second time, accompanied by live, immersive visuals by Jaymis Loveday. We'll also be presenting a bunch of other original works, including the polyrhythmic audiovisual journey "BMX" (as seen at TEDxBrisbane 2013), a new piece by Cameron Bower of Big Dead, and a minimalist-inspired re-imagining of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill".

Nonsemble are a unique presence in Australia, somewhere in between a classical chamber ensemble and an art-rock collective. We're influenced by Debussy and Philip Glass as much as Flying Lotus and Bjork, and we aim to make music which is challenging and adventurous, but immediately accessible and engaging. The diverse mix of members leads to a pretty unique sound. Chris Perren of Mr. Maps is at the helm, joined by a mix of classically trained players and seasoned rock sessionists. In our short history we've performed at Harvest Festival, TEDxBrisbane, and have been featured on New York's influential I Care If You Listen mixtape. Our 2012 recording P" is available on bandcamp.

Performers: Chris Perren (guitar/composition), Briony Luttrell (cello), Kieran Welch (viola), Hik Sugimoto (drums/percussion), Samuel Andrews (violin), Flora Wong (violin), Samuel Mitchell (piano)
