Event Details
On July 28, world-renowned duo concert pianists, Penelope Thwaites and John Lavender, will return to Tintern Schools to delight the audience with some popular classical piano works. Penelope, a past Tintern student, and John, a past member of the Tintern music staff, have performed together as a duo since 1979 and form a unique piano partnership due to their uncanny fusion of personal styles. They have performed and recorded many programs of Australian music and are pre-eminent in the four-hand works of Percy Grainger. They last performed at the school in 1997. Since making her London debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1974, Penelope has performed and broadcast in over 25 countries on five continents. She was appointed to the Order of Australia in 2001 for her services to Australian Music. John, a long time resident in England, performs chamber music and the two-piano repertoire as well as accompanies many distinguished soloists. He is in much demand as an adjudicator and teacher and is on the visiting staff at Eton College.
The program will include: Shostakovich, Concertino Op 94; Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Juliet Overture (arr. Lavender) and Hill Song No 2 by Grainger. The event is open to all members of the community and we welcome all classical music lovers to come along.
Featured non-Australian music: Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky
