Event Details

The Sun Songbook is Phil Slater's latest project and features music based upon the iconic works of Australian composer Peter Scuthorpe. Both Phil and Matt McMahon were composition students of Peter at the University of Sydney in the early 90s, and have gone on to include many of Peter's influences such as Japanese, Indonesian, Australian Aboriginal song in their own works, as well as elements of Peter's harmonic and melodic sense. This is the SIMA premier of The Sun Songbook. SIMA has been a proud presenter of Phil's projects for over a decade including Strobe Coma Virgo, Band of Five Names and the Phil Slater Quartet.
