Event Details
Based on an 18th century fairytale by Carlo Gozzi, The Love for three Oranges is a colourful and satirical opera that highlights Prokofiev's talent for musical wit and humour. The Symphonic Suite presents highlights from the opera in six movements.
Diana Doherty is the Principal Oboist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, an internationally renowned soloist and a former Principal Oboist of the Queensland Youth Symphony. Her virtuosic talent will be on display in the world premiere of Allan Zavod's Oboe Concerto, written especially for Diana and QYS.
Ranked 13th in ABC Classic FM's Classic 100' in 2010, Saint-Saëns's Symphony No. 3 is widely known as the Organ Symphony. The composer considered it the high point of his artistic compositions, saying 'I have given all that I had to give. What I have done, I shall never do again'. The main themes in the fourth movement are widely known through their use in the film, Babe.
