Event Details

This is quality experimental jazz, exhausting and multi-layered. Reaston’s buzzing and atonal guitar playing is a signature sound that offsets well with Kay’s screaming alto sax rambles.

Alternative Media Group Saxophonist Martin Kay and guitarist David Reaston formed The Reaston/Kay Effect in 2005. Their sound emerges from the modal maelstrom of the 60s and delves into the fragmentary obsessions of the New York downtown scene.

Martin Kay works on many cross-genre projects, including the composer/improviser collective Invisible City, the punk gypsy dinky swing random outfit The Fantastic Terrific Munkle, experimental pop outfit Ma, while also playing tenor sax with innovative contemporary classical ensemble Continuum Sax. He has performed with the Sydney Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic and the Australian Opera and Ballet orchestras.

David Reaston is a Sydney based guitarist who composes and improvises 21st Century Art Music. His outstanding sonic ensemble The 10 Guitar Project’, combined with freebased improvisation have confirmed him as an audacious innovator. Named a “Madman and prophet” by the Sydney Morning Herald, David has recently recorded for ABC Classic FM’s Jazztrack program (10 Guitar Project), and has released albums , most notably with The Reaston/Kay Effect (The Reaston/Kay Effect, 2008) and under his own name (After Now, 2004).
