Event Details

Leon Theremin, a Russian physicist, accidentally discovered one day in 1920 that you could make music by placing a person in the path of an electronic circuit. It was the first electronic musical instrument, played without physical contact: the player simply moves a hand nearer to an antenna to manipulate the pitch or volume of the oscillators. Melbourne artist Robin Fox has made a massive Theremin, which lots of us play at once, with our whole bodies - by walking past, dancing around, or any such tomfoolery.

Originally commissioned by City of Melbourne.
