Recipient of the 'Bell Award for Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2008' and 3rd place in the 2008 National Jazz Awards, Sam Anning has performed and recorded with many eminent national and international jazz greats including Charlie Haden, Jim Black, Gretchen Parlato, George Garzone, Wycliffe Gordon, Greg Osby, James Morrison, Bernie McGann, Julien Wilson, Jamie Oehlers, Katie Noonan, Paul Grabowsky, Don Burrows, Allan Browne and Scott Tinkler.
Having recently returned from the 'Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music' and New York, Sam will be leading the Quintet through music inspired by these experiences. The Quintet consists of the highly sort after Eugene Ball (tpt), the award winning Andrea Keller (pno), the ever brilliant Steve Magnusson (guit), the effervescent Raj "chops" Jayaweera (drums), and Sam (d. bass).
