Event Details
In this concert we collaborate with the exciting young chamber orchestra Sydney Camerata for an Easter program of musical settings of Christ’s final words on the cross. Works by Renaissance master Heinrich Schütz and internationally renowned Scottish composer James MacMillan. Sound and silence together create a new language of grief and hope that is mesmerising and deeply moving. Themes of sorrow and redemption are further explored in the heart-wrenching music of Lassus, Victoria and Gesualdo. Award-winning Australian composer Nigel Westlake provides his unique perspective on suffering and the healing power of music in the premiere of a new a cappella movement from his masterful Missa Solis: Requiem for Eli.
Performers: Sydney Chamber Choir, cond. Paul Stanhope with guest artists Sydney Camerata Chamber Orchestra
Featured non-Australian music: Works by James Macmillan, Schutz, Gesualdo, Lotti and Victoria.
