“Evans and her brilliant ensemble tell a story that is surely best experienced as a whole, with no distractions” The Herald Sun

World-class Sydney-based saxophonist Sandy Evans demonstrates the of talent we have here locally in Sydney as she plays with her all-star band paying for the first International Women's Festival and surely there is no-one better to represent Australia than the multi-award-winning saxophonist. Both from her dedication to her art-form and to the nurturing of young women working in jazz, Sandy Evans is an inspiration to women musicians everywhere. A mainstay of Australian jazz, leading and co-leading various innovative ensembles over the years such as Clarion Fracture Zone and a member of many more, including Ten Part Invention, The catholics, modern jazz-world folk music combo Mara! and her quintet exploring Indian music and jazz with singer Sarangan and tabla master Bobby Singh.

Evans has won numerous awards most recently, and notably, a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to Australian contemporary jazz as a composer and a musician: a rare honour for a jazz musician. In addition to her many bands and projects, she is currently completing an ABC-commissioned work called Testimony, a tribute to saxophonist Charlie "Bird" Parker. A recording of the complete work is to be issued in the US next year.

Sandy Evans (tenor/soprano saxophone), Phil Slater (trumpet), James Greening (trombone), Alister Spence (piano), Brett Hirst (bass), Toby Hall (drums)
