For one night only, saxophonist Sandy Evans presents excerpts from her new work Changing Times with her trio, bassist Brett Hirst and drummer Toby Hall.

Developed with the support of an Australia Council Fellowship, Changing Times explores intersections between diverse expressive and musical concepts in a contemporary jazz context. Prepare to be awestruck with modern mastery, soaring saxophone lines and transcendental rhythms.

The Sandy Evans Trio performed to sell-out audiences in their European tour, including a sell-out show at the prestigious JazzFest Berlin. Sandy’s composition, 'The Seed of Delight' from the trio’s Not in the Mood album was an APRA Award finalist for Most Performed Jazz Composition, 2003.

An internationally celebrated touring artist, ARIA award winner Dr Sandy Evans OAM has appeared at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Festival, The North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands) and Jazz Yatra (India). She leads the Sandy Evans Trio and Sextet, and co-leads the acclaimed Clarion Fracture Zone.

Sandy’s discography includes collaborations with Bernie McGann, Bobby Singh, Andrew Robson, Kim Sanders, Satsuki Odamura and Judy Bailey. A member of MARA!, The catholics, the Australian Art Orchestra, Ten Part Invention and austraLYSIS, her portfolio of projects demonstrates her versatility and contribution to Australian music. Recent highlights have included concerts with Terri Lyne Carrington, Silke Eberhard, Ellen Kirkwood and Sirens Big Band.

Bassist Brett Hirst is a virtuoso who has performed and recorded with many Australian and international artists including Mike Nock, James Muller, Mark Isaacs, Lior, Vince Jones, Katie Noonan, James Morrison, Sandy Evans, Gary Daley, Phil Slater, Sam Keevers, Scott Tinkler, Paul Cutlan, Andrew Robson, Reuben Derrick, Gerard Masters and Nick McBride.

Toby Hall is a highly regarded Australian jazz drummer. Sandy and Toby have a long association, known for their exciting work together in bands such as Clarion Fracture Zone and The catholics. Toby has played on more than 30 CDs and performed with major jazz artists including Mike Nock, Lloyd Swanton, Don Burrows, Roger Manins, Paul Capsis and James Greening. Toby has toured extensively throughout Australia, Europe, USA, Canada, Asia, and the South Pacific. Toby plays with The Umbrellas, The Alister Spence Trio, The World According to James, Sandy Evans Trio and Sextet, Jeremy Sawkins Organism and Guy Straz.
