Event Details

"Dave Jackson's alto saxophone does not just have a certain lightness of tone, it actually seems to emit light, so the effect is of him shining a bright beam on each note... the instant melodic appeal is reminiscent of the fruit of a wine hitting the tongue before the astringent finish.” John Shand, SMH

The Denominators have been playing together for four years and their sound continues to get stronger and more clear every time they play. This band aims to avoid the confines of any particular stylistic boundaries although the music is deeply rooted in the history of jazz.

Initially put together by National Jazz award winner - Brendan Clarke - the band started out playing standards and originals from all the members. in 2011 they released an EP featuring the music of Paul Derricott and toured the major centers. Tonight they will be playing music from a new EP by Dave Jackson which was recorded in Brooklyn earlier this year as well as Paul's compositions. This band aims to avoid the confines of any particular stylistic boundaries although the music is deeply rooted in the history of Jazz.

Dave Jackson - alto sax, Hugh Barrett - piano, Brendan Clarke (snr) - bass, Paul Derricott - drums.
