Event Details
SNAP is a saxophone quartet that combines the swinging power of a jazz quartet with the subtlety and compositional clarity of a chamber music ensemble.
It combines the talents of four of Sydney’s most distinctive saxophonists: Sandy Evans (Gest8, the catholics, Clarion Fracture Zone), Phillip Johnston (Microscopic Septet, Fast ‘N’ Bulbous, The Coolerators), Paul Cutlan (Mara!, Australian Art Orchestra, Ten Part Invention) & Nick Bowd (Sousaphonics, Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra).
2010 saw the release of the first SNAP CD, Boggy Creek Bop, on Rufus Records. The Melbourne Herald-Sun lauded its “creativity and inventiveness” and East Side Radio made it their ‘Album of the Moment’. Featuring The Bellingen Suite, a major new work by Sandy Evans and a widely varied array of music that ranges from the mournful beauty of Reviled to the oddball angularity of Bar Talk and AmScray, the CD defies conventional expectations.
SNAP returns to the Sound Lounge for the first time in 2 years playing music from their new CD, and new world-premiere compositions.
Phillip Johnston (soprano, alto saxophones) Paul Cutlan (alto saxophone) Sandy Evans (tenor saxophone) Nick Bowd (baritone saxophone)
