Event Details

Take three composers spanning Austria, Hungary and America, two centuries of musical tradition and the turmoil of the 20th century sociopolitical cauldron... Result? Soundstream Collective presents three voices for the 20th century - anchored in but extending 19th century precepts. Bringing together some of Australia's virtuosi players for a one-off concert at Elder Hall, Intriguing Soundscapes will feature wind quintets by Alfred Uhl, Gyorgy Ligeti and Samuel Barber. Exploring progressive ideas of instrumentation, form and soundscape, the three composers distilled out of the turmoil of the 20th century, innovative, sometimes challenging, but always intriguing soundscapes that have imparted new spirit to the ageless phenomenon of music. Audiences will also be treated to world premieres by South Australian composers Charles Bodman Rae and David Harris.

Featured non-Australian music: Samuel Barber, Gyorgy Ligeti, Alfred Uhl
