Event Details

A sequel to the sold-out recital Latin Piano Expressions, Dr. Daniel Rojas presents a fresh and unique solo recital experience, Spontaneous Piano Expressions. Join Rojas in this exclusive showcase of unscripted music making where exploration, intimacy, raw energy and audience interaction will be the Doctor’s orders for the evening when he takes to the stage in the quaint and intimate surrounds of the heritage-listed Old Darlington School, University of Sydney on Saturday 27 October, 7:30pm.

This daring programme will feature a range of introspective and extroverted free-style improvisations that draw upon classical, jazz, contemporary and Latin American genres. The improvisations will be interspersed with an assortment of Latin American indigenous, folk, popular and classical pieces, including music by seminal Argentine tango composer, Astor Piazzolla. Naturally, these improvisations will be created as they are performed providing a unique and exclusive listening experience as Rojas takes audiences on a thrilling journey that can only be heard live at this recital.

Rojas is an acclaimed prize-winning composer, pianist and improviser. Besides his extensive experience as a solo artist, he has performed with numerous classical and world music ensembles such as The Great Bowing Company, Jacana, Tigramuna, Tango Paradis and Los Mambises throughout Australia, Asia and Latin America. Rojas will launch his new CD, at the concert with a special price only available on the night. The album features his own compositions and improvisations, alongside two of Piazzolla’s most regarded works, Resurrección del Angel and Histoire du Tango.
