SPRING took it's name from the most optimistic of seasons. The core repertoire are those multitudes of songs about spring, love, hope and even despair. As well as performing annually for the MJC, Spring has been the house band at The Bell Awards for the last 4 years. The front line of two reeds (Cheryl Clark and Ken Schroder) explores the musical colours available with various combinations of saxophones, clarinet, oboe and flute. The rhythm section comprises the under-exposed talents of David Allardice (piano), Ian Wilmot (acoustic bass) and Sonja Horbelt (drums). The wide repertoire includes Schroder originals, and some of the gems of jazz that have been overlooked for a while. Lightly arranged, to get the most out of the combination, Spring is still focused on improvisation, rhythmic diversity and subtlety.
