“Stu Hunter is a true original” - The Music Show, Radio National
Change and disruption has become the new normal and brought with it a challenging relationship to distance, isolation and space.
This long winter of space has led Stu to make beautiful things. He is ready to share them with you.
Award winning pianist and composer Stu Hunter will perform an intimate set of his new compositions in the beautiful atmosphere of the Old 505 Theatre.
Rhythmic invention and melodic adventure are the foundations of Hunter’s music and this performance will be an opportunity to immerse in his unique approach and style.

“Hunter's compositions provide a great variety of structural form, as if every creative concept from jazz beginnings to the avant-garde, mixed with a universe of other influences, had been deconstructed and reassembled into an original, utterly absorbing work” - The Australian

Stu has released 3 critically acclaimed records under his own name – ‘The Muse’, ‘The Gathering’ and ‘The Migration’

The Migration was premiered at the 2016 Sydney Festival, at City Recital Hall, Angel Place followed by a National tour. It was nominated for a 2016 ARIA award for Best Jazz Album and was also nominated in all 5 categories of the 2017 Australian Jazz Bell awards, winning 2 gongs for “Best Australian Jazz Song” and “Best Ensemble”
The Gathering won best contemporary jazz album at both the 2010 Bell Awards and the 2010 AIR awards.

In April 2017, the entire 10-piece Migration ensemble performed at the Jazzahead! Festival in Germany, to a sold-out audience.

Bassist, composer Cameron Undy takes you on a journey into a world of shadow rhythms, giving a glimpse of the ‘ghost frequencies’ that guide the musical mind and body.

The footprint is a ghost
Weight, shape, intention
Presence of body unseen

Thoughts stir patterns in mind
Moving body, moving air
Moving music
