Sydney International Women's Jazz Festival Presents: Monica Trapaga + The Pocket Trio
Monica Trapaga is a consummate performer. Her warm and witty approach has been instrumental in her success as a jazz singer and entertainer, where she has featured at major festivals across the world. Born in Sydney to a Basque-Chinese father, and a Catalan-American mother, Monica was the youngest of the Trapaga brood, who had relocated to Australia from Manila prior to Monica’s arrival. She has described her "fairly crazy Latin family” as instrumental in her developing her musical tastes. Growing up, she was surrounded by music, hearing everything from jazz and Latin to opera and classical music. Monica cites her father, who had an interest in jazz, and particularly Afro-Cuban jazz, as an influence as she went on to explore a range of contemporary styles performing with jazz, pop and big bands.
