Event Details

Narrated by ABC Radio's Derek Guille, this is the inspiring true story of World War I cornet player and stretcher-bearer Nelson Ferguson, from Ballarat.

The Melbourne-Villers Bretonneux Brass Ensemble performs Nigel Westlake's incidental music from the play The Glass Soldier, alongside brass band music, hymns and well-known tunes from the era.

This 15 piece ensemble comprises some of Melbourne's finest brass and percussion players, drawing members from ensembles such as the Melbourne Symphony.

It takes its name from Villers-Bretonneux in Northern France, which its members visited during 2007, performing at the Australian War Memorial.

This concert is generously sponsored by the Isobel and David Jones Family Foundation.
