The Sydney Conservatorium Big Band is Australia's leading student jazz ensemble. Under the direction of David Theak, the big band performs sophisticated repertoire, from the world's leading jazz composers, at a professional level featuring students soloists and occasional special professional guests. The alumni of the Sydney Conservatorium Big Band reads like a who's, who of Australian Jazz and is the cornerstone of Australia's leading jazz program and a regular performer at many of Australia's finest Jazz Festivals. The Jazz Studies program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music is the most highly regarded and longest established course of its kind in Australia. Students work alongside some of Australia’s best known jazz musicians and composers, and are trained in improvisation, ensemble playing, and repertoire development.
