The first Melbourne season of this dynamic work by David Shea (USA/AUS). The Trading Routes – The Silk Road & Magau Caves combines four virtuosic musicians - Matthias Schack-Arnott, David Shea, Eugene Ughetti and Mindy Wang - with a grand video work. Scored for electronics, percussion, guzheng, singing bowls and voice, this major work is fed by the rich cultural and spiritual history of the Silk Road and MoGau Caves in Dunhuang, China.
Sonically underpinned by field recordings and the live sound of the 2500 year-old iconic instrument the guzheng, Shea weaves a contemporary narrative around the ancient trading routes that connected.
