Event Details
The Vampires are celebrating in Canberra the release of their fifth album, 'The Vampires meet Lionel Loueke', a collaboration with Benin born US guitarist and Blue Note Records’ artist Lionel Loueke. The new album is the result of years of musical development and ambitious preparation, as the band set out to make something special to celebrate 10 years of music making.
The Vampires’ music builds on the rich history of pianoless jazz quartets with a unique twist adopting reggae, Balkan, aftobeat and latin rhythms in unexpected ways, creating a style of their own. The genre-defying ensemble features award-winning solo members - saxophonist Jeremy Rose (Young Australian Jazz Artist, APRA Professional Development Award), trumpeter Nick Garbett (National Jazz Award, runner-up), guitarist Ben Hauptmann (Freedman Fellowship), bassist Jonathan Zwartz (Bell Award winner) and drummer Alex Masso. For their appearance at The Street, the band also revisit favourites from their growing catalogue of original tunes.
