Contemplate the power of voice before and beyond words and explore the human voice in this immersive exhibition. Experience the human voice, how it locates us socially, geographically and psychologically, and learn how the voice is utterly flexible and can be altered with treatment and training.
Designed as an acoustic journey, delve inside vocal tracts, restless minds and speech devices to discover how meaning and emotions are conveyed through the patterns of rhythm, stress and intonation. Blending performance, video, visuals and sound, This is a Voice presents works by artists and vocalists, punctuated by paintings, manuscripts, medical illustrations and ethnographic objects.
This is a Voice includes a new version of David Chesworth and Sonia Leber's work 'This Is Before We Disappear From View', originally commissioned for the 19th Biennale of Sydney. This is a Voice is a Wellcome Collection exhibition produced in collaboration with the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS).
Entry: FREE with museum entry.
