Event Details
Beginning at midday, the Tilde New Music Mini Festival is an open social event rather than a concert, featuring performances by contrabassist Nick Tsiavos, whose recent work includes the album one hundred months, third of east and collaborations with Adam Simmons, Deborah Kayser and many others; flutist Belinda Woods, a current research candidate at the VCA whose practice spans new music, post-classical improvisation, jazz and pop; interdisciplinary artist Carmen Chan has recently returned to Melbourne and is promising a music and text-based reflection on Australia Day; composer Peter McIlwain performing with the CEMA-produced software Nodal, Peter recently exhibited Imaginary Ornithology at Burrinja Café, reflecting on bird life in the Dandenong Ranges; percussionist and conductor Timothy Phillips, whose career has seen him perform with Klangforum Wien in Europe and who is now the artistic director and chief conductor of the Arcko Symphonic Ensemble; the ‘hurricane disguised as a flute player’, USA-born Peter Sheridan will be performing with his collection of monstrously large flutes, playing music recently composed from all around the world; sound artist Jacques Soddell, founder and director of Undue Noise and Cajid Media, experimental music organisation and record label based in central Victoria, and; more!
The Mini Festival will include barbecue and other food available, there is a bar from which to refresh or caffeinate yourself, and lots of people interested in or curious about new music and sound art. Tilde will also be demonstrating their new music and sound art roving gallery on the day, another opportunity to engage with the work going on here in Australia.
Performers: Vincent Giles, Roger Alsop, Peter Sheridan, Timothy Phillips, Faux Foe (Trio), Peter McIlwain, Nick Tsiavos, Belinda Woods, Jacques Soddell, Carmen Chan, Laila Engle
