Event Details

In this unique double bill acclaimed Brisbane based modern jazz explorers TRICHOTOMY meet avant-garde psychedelic indie-ambient trio CHRIS PICKERING EXPERIMENT.

TRICHOTOMY, featuring Sean Foran (piano), John Parker (drums) and Samuel Vincent (bass), have long established themselves as a leading trio in contemporary jazz in Australia, with a string of Bell & AIR nominated albums, performances around the country plus shows in Japan, Canada, UK, Norway, France, Germany, and China. Effortlessly blending gentle atmospherics with dense rhythmic interactions the trio grab electronic manipulations of their acoustic instruments and blend these sounds alongside the acoustic sources. Captivating music, bold, and melodically strong.

4 STARS - "rugged, hooky themes and savvy pacing and drama" - The Guardian

Chris Pickering Experiment is the live project of Melbourne-based writer-musician Chris Pickering, also featuring James O’Brien (Bass - Darling James) and Ben Graham (Drums). The trio play stretched-out psychedelic twang versions of Pickering’s well-structured indie-pop songs, with influences as diverse as Burt Bacharach, Waylon Jennings, Tinariwen, and Can. Featuring space-rock guitar solos, tight-knit arrangements, and brilliant musicality, this group delve into the mysterious, the musical, and no song ever sounds the same.
