Event Details
The Consort of Melbourne pays tribute to Tomás Luis de Victoria with a modern twist as young Australian composer Joseph Twist frames each concert with a work inspired by the Renaissance master.
2011 marks the four-hundredth anniversary of the death of Tomás Luis de Victoria (c.1548-1611), without doubt the most significant and best-regarded composer of Renaissance sacred music. The Consort's series of three 'tribute' concerts highlight in turn three of his greatest and best-known works, but with a modern 'Twist'. In part to demonstrate through music Victoria's relevance to Melbourne audiences, young Australian composer Joseph Twist is framing each concert with a contemporary work directly inspired by the great master.
