Event Details

Ainslie and Gorman is thrilled to welcome Way Out West to the Ainslie Arts Centre, on the Canberra leg of their national tour.

Led by daring trumpeter/composer Peter Knight, Way Out West’s latest, self-titled album features koto virtuoso, Satsuki Odamura and won the 2016 Age/Music Victoria ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ along with rave reviews including four and a half stars in The Australian.

Way Out West is at the vanguard of an important musical movement that engages with Australia’s place in Asia to produce a unique hybrid form of jazz. Their sound – which integrates, Asian, African, and jazz influences – has been described as “utterly unique” and has earned the band a loyal local following as well as invitations to play some of the largest music festivals in the world.

“Truly one of the highlights of the day, the Melbourne-based group managed to combine different styles seamlessly.” Vancouver Sun
