Event Details

Reflecting the past, present and future, this program seeks to combine the ancient sound of the didjeridu, a William Forster cello (1791), two new Australian made Stuart & Sons pianos and electronics.

The didjeridu goes beyond sound. When played well, its rich overtones and mesmerizing drones evoke a deep spirituality drawn from the ancient traditions of Australia. By contrast, the spirituality of the piano and cello are embedded in the European tradition. This program will be a unique musical dialogue between these powerful forms of cultural expression.

William Barton has forged an international profile in the classical musical world, performing with the Philharmonic Orchestras globally. With his prodigious musicality and the quiet conviction of his Kalkadunga heritage, he has vastly expanded the horizons of the didgeridoo. Australian musicians Ashley Hribar (piano) and Richard Vaudrey (cello) form "Two Deep Breaths". Together they have developed a powerful and personalized approach to composition and improvisation by using a Moog DFAM drum machine, a collection of digital and analog effect pedals, a William Forster cello (1791) and two new Australian-made Stuart & Sons pianos.
