Event Details
Inspired by the acclaimed documentary ‘Women of Steel’, Steel City Strings and percussionist Claire Edwardes premiere a concerto for percussion and string orchestra by Australian composer, Natalie Williams. The work Steeling Fire pays homage to the struggle of the Illawarra Jobs for Women campaign for jobs at the Pt Kembla steelworks between 1980-1994. The program also features rarely performed works for string orchestra by recent Eastern European composers Aleksandra Vrebalov, Pavle Popović and Dragan Šuplevski as well as the familiar Chamber Symphony by Shostakovich. Steeling Fire commissioned by Steel City Strings with funding from Create NSW.
