The Young Women in Jazz Ensemble workshops are run in Perth annually by the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra. The workshops aim to teach young women all aspects of improvisation and operating within a small ensemble, in a comfortable, judgement free environment. The workshops have been led by Gemma Farrell and have included a range of very talented tutors, such as Kate Pass, Talya Valenti, Alana Macpherson, Jessica Carlton, Laura Corney, Naomi Tan, Catherine Noblet and Esther Li.
For this performance, we have selected 9 girls from the 2018 workshops, most who have participated in the workshops in previous years as well. They represent the exciting, up and coming talent we have in Perth. Samantha Mayes on Flute, Lorian Marshall on Clarinet, Abbie Langford on Alto Saxophone, Dee Moore on Tenor Saxophone, Stella Carapetis on Trumpet, Abbey Bradstreet on Guitar, Mei Lyn Woon on Piano, Millie Williams on Bass and Catherine Porter on Drums.
