The text is simple; Bonhoeffer's circumstances were not. Written while the Lutheran pastor was imprisoned in Nazi Germany for his criticism of and activities against that regime, the humility of his devotion is all the more poignant and is a lesson in courage to us all. The music attempts to honour this.
