Product details

Emily Sheppard is a composer, performer and marine scientist based in nipaluna/Hobart, Tasmania. She dwells in what she describes as 'the murky territory between realms often considered opposites: classical and folk, improvisation and notation, art and science'. These all find common ground in that elusive emotion of awe whose edges she often traverses. Greatly inspired by the enduring mysteries of nature, she aims to bring a little more wonder to the world.

Her new work Age-old explores the intersectionality of invisibility: the complex ways that age and gender interact with culture and place within the arts industry and community. Drawing on interviews from a diverse cross-section of artists and community members, as well as the lived experiences of the writers, this suite of music examines these themes in first-person from birth to old age: the challenges, but also the joy, wisdom and acceptance that comes with the latter stages of life, finally inviting us to confront our own mortality, and our own part in the inevitable cycle.

Contents note: A Leaf at Sea -- Sandstone Cliffs Surrounding Me -- Hell for Leather -- Into Mist, Almost -- Reverence -- Old Friend.
