Product details
This is a three-movement work for solo guitar. The title refers to the cassowary, a large, flightless bird native to the Northeastern rainforests of Queensland, Australia. An albino cassowary would be very biologically unlikely. The bird is identified due to the shared tropical environment of Northern Australian and Southern Brazil. Harmonies and rhythms drawn from Bossa nova music are utilised in order to heighten this connection. The second movement portrays a lonely desert town at night, the isolated kind that are countlessly dotted around rural Australia. The third movement is meant to depict avoiding swooping magpies while walking through sun-drenched suburbs, containing a more angular, dissonant character.
