Product details

Award-winning Australian cellist and composer Hilary Kleinig released her debut solo album ALONE : TOGETHER on May 8, alongside an independently produced national tour across Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney.

Best known for her decades-long work as cellist and artistic director of Zephyr Quartet, this release marks a significant artistic shift - her first major project presented under her own name.

ALONE : TOGETHER is a suite of eight original compositions for solo cello and live looping, created using only cello, microphone, and computer. Each work is built layer by layer in performance, with musical ideas unfolding and returning over time.

As Kleinig describes in the album's notes, while grounded in a solo practice, the album reflects a deeply connected approach to making - shaped by collaboration, community, and lived experience.

Exploring the full sonic range of the cello - bowed, plucked, harmonic, and percussive - Kleinig transforms a single instrument into rich, multi-layered sound worlds.

Fusing influences of folk, classical, EDM, and pop, ALONE : TOGETHER moves between intimate minimalism and expansive, symphonic textures.
