Product details

This is a setting of one of the Collects to be used after the Offertory at Ante-Communion or after the Collects at Matins, Evensong, Communion or the Litany in the Anglican Communion according to the Book of Common Prayer, 1662. As it has such broad applications, it makes a good text for an anthem for general use. A soft work (the loudest dynamic given being mf), it may also find a use as a Communion motet. The gentle and lyrical nature of the choral parts lend themselves to the addition of a soft upper woodwind instrument (such as flute, oboe, or recorder), that plays a descant over some of the choral sections. This part is optional. The words 'begun in thee', continued in thee' and 'ended in thee' are set to the same music as a sort of 'refrain' throughout the piece, and occur as suggested at the beginning, middle and end of the work. With a secondary repeating motive (bars 20-28), the work adopts an arch form: ABACABA, as suggested by the text.
