Sheet Music: ScoreBeyond the Liminal : for solo shakuhachi / Anne Norman.by Anne Norman (2023)
|
Product details
I initially sketched elements of this shakuhachi solo in 2021, giving it the working title of Beyond. It was a hankering for life beyond pandemic lockdowns and endless dystopian extinction narratives to a remembrance of our interconnectedness and a vision of a future filled with varied and abundant life-forms.
As I was reworking the piece in late 2023, my beautiful father died. He was a physicist with a passion for subatomic and molecular structures as well as a love for astronomy.
Beyond the Liminal was released on my Surf Coast Wanderings album in 2024 with these track notes:
Lying on the sand, in the liminal zone between land and sea... gazing across the watery expanse, I drift into the magic realm of clouds...
The "Liminal", being the zone between one place or state of being and the next, is a threshold - a magical, mystical... sometimes scary place to be.
I dedicate Beyond the Liminal to my father Peter Norman (1932-2023) who bought me a small yacht as a child, enabling me to sail out toward the horizon.
Dad always sought to see beyond the known, and passed from this world into his beloved cosmos in the week I was finishing this piece.
