Product details
Composed originally for piano solo, this piece is a meditation on
the traditional American folk song Black is the Color of my
True Love's Hair and was written (after some preparatory
sketches) in the space of a single day in Campania on December
13, 2009.
The version for piano four hands was done with the desire to
intensify some of the textures, as well as simplify some of the
part writing.
The piece is paired with my Study XIII, Organ
Pipes, as Two Preludes for piano solo, composed in
the middle part of 2014. It was work on the two preludes that
brought Study X back to my attention. The piece is
dedicated to my wife, Claire.
