Product details
Bloodwood Variations for solo violin is inspired by the Yellow Bloodwood Tree native to NSW that bleeds red sap that makes it look like it is bleeding. The sap is a powerful tonic and inspired the composer to write a piece in reverence of this powerful tree. The piece was written in response to her major eco oratorio Sacred Environment (2017) that was premiered at the Holland Festival. In preparation for this piece she spent a period of time conducting artistic research in Yengo, Dharug and Wollemi National parks that provided the inspiration for her piece. Here she learned about the significance of the Bloodwood tree. The piece was premiered by Australian violinist Anna McMichael. The piece was written out side on a long distance walking route from the Netherlands to Ireland called The Ox Way, a route designed by the composer herself as an outdoors composition atelier.
