Product details
In December 1868, a ship called the Orient docked in Port
Adelaide, South Australia following an arduous three-month voyage
from England. On board this ship were seven young Irish Dominican
sisters from Cabra, Dublin.
These young women, through determination, faith, and a sense of
calling, established in the young colony a secondary school for
girls - St. Mary's College.
Bound for a Foreign Land is the opening movement of a
triptych commissioned by St. Mary's College to celebrate the
150th anniversary of the founding of the school.
This work for orchestra is inspired by the journey of the seven
sisters towards the unknown land of South Australia. The music
travels through uncertainty, adventure and finally peace and
consolidation, with an Irish-infused theme reflecting upon the
heritage and homeland of the founding sisters.
